Hannah's Single of the Week (14/03/05)

Special Mentions:
Tony Christie - 'Amarillo'
Amarillo!!!Regardless of what happened on Comic Relief night, this single was always going to be released, accompanied by the hilarious video from top Brit comic, Peter Kay. The most important thing is that it outdoes the McFly effort by miles, and deserves to sell just as well. Things are looking up. My mum got the last one in Tesco, today. On Friday night, it was announced that if £1 million pounds was donated in the next hour, the single would be on the shelves on Monday. The resulting surge in donations was impressive - just over £10 million - and yes, I WILL be buying this single. Why? For the video that manages to include, amongst others, some of the cast of Corrie, Ronnie Corbett, Queen, Sooty and Sweep and Mr Blobby. This video was made for my little brother. It's for charity. It's amazingly funny. And it should hopefully put McFly in their place. It will do at this rate - 40,000 copies sold on Monday alone - sheesh!

Green Day - 'Holiday'
Green Day - HolidayThe original fans have started to abandon Green Day. The band have leaped into the mainstream, they dominate The Box and MTV Hits -what self-respecting punk would like them? So what? Personally, I don't see what's changed, at least musically. There's something extremely repetitive about Green Day, yet they know how to formulate a catchy hook and keep people interested. The problem is that, in the case of Green Day, what is great upon first to fifth listen, rapidly becomes extremely boring when overplayed to the extent it is. Stay away from the TV and radio, and it's fine. 3/5

Single of the Week:
Rilo Kiley -'Portions For Foxes'
Jonny sent it to me, and it's very good. That is all. Please buy. 4/5

Avoid at ALL costs:
Beck - 'E Pro'
I feel like the odd one out. I have never understood what is so amazing about Beck. In the case of 'E Pro' The video's clever, but unnappealing and the song is one I simply wish to stop. As soon as possible. There's a nagging feeling at the back of my mind this song could have been great, but simply got lost along the way. Please tell me what is so great about this track! 1.5/5

G4 - 'Bohemian Rhapsody/Everybody Hurts'
Reason #2453 G4 should cease to exist - this. Covering pop and rock classics with your sub-standard opera that doesn't even suit them is unacceptable. 'Creep' was atrocious. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was slightly more bearable, but still an insult to one of the greatest songs in the history of popular music. I haven't heard 'Everybody Hurts' but I can hazard a guess at what my opinion will be. Operatic boybands have their place in the world. Unfortunately it is not singing this. 1.5/5
