Hannah's Single of the Week (19/12/05)

While I'll give a special mention for the re-release of 'Fairytale of New York', the fact that it's the race for Christmas number one undoubtedly makes this release list a bit rubbish (for want of a stronger word). James Blunt, The Choirboys, G4 and...Santa - the future doesn't look bright. Even Girls Aloud have come out with a ballad that doesn't quite hit the spot. So, is there anything to like? Yes, yes there is.

Single of the Week:
Coldplay - 'Talk'
While 'X&Y', overall, was something of a disappointment, Coldplay have thankfully released one of the better songs on the album as a single. The Kraftwerk-sampling 'Talk' has a bit more pace than your average Coldplay song, is surprisingly catchy, and even has what could be the band's most entertaining video to date due to some of the most amusing overracting of the year. The video ('hurrah it's not a performance video'/'ooh, they're trying to be Radiohead' etc) is arguably the best thing about the release. That said, and despite the fact it's a stronger single than 'Speed Of Sound', it probably won't even make the top 10.
4/5
